Periodic Training Syllabus

Periodic training is designed to complement the individual driver’s work and be relevant to their every day job. The Courses include SAFED (Safe and Fuel Efficient Driving) style training, defensive driving techniques, first aid, health and safety, driver’s hours regulations and tachographs. Courses will also enable drivers to keep up to date with changing regulations.

The syllabus covers:

Module 1: Control of vehicles and eco driving techniques

7 hours compulsory training

* Characteristics of transmittion system
* Effective use of safety controls in LPSV's and LGV's
* Optimising fuel consumption

 

Module 2: Minimising risks and managing emergencies in the transport industry

7 hours compulsory training

* Risks of accidents at work
* Ability to assess emergency situations


Module 3: Health and safety of the professional driver

7 hours compulsory training

* The importance of physical and mental ability to the professional driver
* Preventing physical risks


Module 4: Role of the professional drivers in the transport industry

7 hours compulsory training

* Ability to adapt behaviour to help enhance the image of the profession
* Understanding the social environment of transport and the regulations governing it


Module 5: The professional truck driver

7 hours compulsory training if you are a professional truck driver

* Safely loading vehicles
* Preventing criminality and trafficking in illegal immigrants for HGV's
* Carriage of goods
* The economic environment of road haulage and the organisation of the market


Module 6: The professional bus driver

7 hours compulsory training if you are a professional bus driver

* Ensuring passenger safety and comfort
* Loading the vehicle license D & E
* Preventing criminality and trafficking in illegal immigrants for LPSV's
* Regulations governing the carriage of passengers
* The economic environment of carrying passengers by road and the organisation of the market
